Investment firm Actis has launched a new data center unit focused on Latin America.
The company said the newly-launched Terranova aims to invest $1.5 billion over the next three years, developing a portfolio of campuses in Brazil, Mexico, and Chile, with additional markets under evaluation.
Terranova reportedly has land and power secured, totalling up to 1GW in capacity.
The first site, located in the Querétaro area of Mexico, is scheduled to come online in Q1 2026, followed by new campuses in Campinas, Brazil (2027) and Chile (2027–2028). Further details on the projects were not shared.
“Latin America is entering a new cycle of digital infrastructure growth, driven by cloud, AI, and enterprise demand,” said José Eduardo Quintella, CEO of Terranova. “Our focus is on disciplined growth – building reliable, scalable data centers that earn our clients’ trust through delivery, efficiency, and performance.”
Owned by General Atlantic, Actis has a number of investments in digital infrastructure across a variety of growth markets.
Actis has a footprint of 11 data centers in six countries on the continent through its NextStream subsidiary, the data center group Actis acquired from Asterion in 2023. Located in the US (Florida), Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, the facilities had originally been built by Telefonica and were acquired by Nabiax in 2019.
News that Actis was setting up a new Latam operator focused on hyperscale developments surfaced in September.
Actis has also previously invested in Chayora in China and Rack Centre in Nigeria. The company also has tower investments in Europe and South Africa, as well as a number of energy firms. An Actis-led consortium took over Telkom’s Swiftnet tower unit in South Africa in March of this year, and the firm launched an Asia-focused platform, Epoch Digital, in June of last year.
“Terranova builds on Actis’ proven global track record in both energy and digital infrastructure,” said Mauricio Giusti, partner at Actis. “We see strong synergies between our existing data center operations in Asia and Terranova’s growth in Latin America. This collaboration allows us to deliver scalable, energy-efficient, and sustainable solutions for global and regional clients.”
Quintella was previously COO at Brazilian operator Scala.
